The Human Division, Episode 6: The Back Channel

The Conclave is a confederation of four hundred alien races—many of whom would like to see the Colonial Union, and the humans inside of it, blasted to extinction. To avoid a conflict that neither side can afford, Conclave leader General Tarsem Gau appoints Hafte Sorvalh to resolve an emerging diplomatic crisis with the humans, before the only acceptable solution is war.

Ah, the old perspective-flip. And yet another very interesting character, one that I hope we’ll see more of … No, not the General, though he’s plenty interesting enough. The star of this episode is definitely Hafte Sorvalh, the General’s ‘assistant’. Who she is, where she came from and what she’s doing here are still very much unanswered questions (there we go again, jeez), but again, they’re questions I’d love to find out the answers to. In the meantime, we’ve got an utterly fascinating character to speculate about. The way in which Sorvalh handles the matter of evicting a wildcat colony ‘peacefully’ impressed the hell out of me, even as I have to admit I laughed out loud while I read it. This one’s got style, though it must also be said that part of me is rather certain we wouldn‘t want to be on the receiving end of ‘unpleasant’ with her…
So, the Conclave (there’s that perspective-flip, and it’s a very interesting one), or at least General Gau, is trying to resolve certain matters concerning the Colonial Union peacefully. Lesson learned from his last appearance, no doubt (for those who may not know, General Gau first appeared in The Lost Colony). It will definitely be interesting to see where those lessons have taken the General, and where they are yet to take him…
