SciFi November: Week 3 Progress Report

sci-fi-read-a-thon

Another update, another (troublesome) week of reading! I strayed a bit from the reading list this week, but I did finally get a thing finished! Let’s see where things stand now…

  • Solaris Rising 3, by Ian Whates (Ed.) – finished!
  • The Recollection, by Gareth L. Powell – still in progress!
  • Last Plane To Heaven, by Jay Lake – starting today!
  • The Mad Scientist’s Guide to World Domination, by John Joseph Adams (Ed.)
  • The Melancholy of Mechagirl, by Catherynne M. Valente

I mentioned straying a bit from the list – a couple of novellas have made their sneaky way onto it this week, one on account of reminding me I’d preordered it by turning up on my Kindle all ninja-like, and the other by being started in a fit of What-To-Read and actually being rather fascinating.

The first of those was Jason M. Hough’s prequel novella¬†The Dire Earth, set before the events in his Dire Earth Cycle trilogy of last year. You can read my review here¬†(spoiler: really enjoyed it!).

The other is another novella, this one written by Catherynne M. Valente –¬†Silently and Very Fast has been on my Kindle for a while now, and after picking it up randomly a couple of days ago I’m now finding it hard to stay away from. I’ll be doing my best to finish that today, so hopefully you can expect a review during the final week of this readathon along with the two books in progress on that there list…

Naturally I’m still hoping to at least get a start on the other two, though it’s looking a little bit dubious now. A day off on Thursday may help with that. We shall see!

That’s all for the readathon news this week, but if you missed my earlier tweeting about it, why not take a look at this week’s spotlight post? Creepy sci-fi for the win!

Right, that’s it for now. I’ve got a lot of reading to do… Happy Sunday, everyone!
