We. Have. LIFT OFF!

It’s heeeeere. SciFi Month has officially begun at last, and boy do I have a fun-filled month on the blog ahead of me! I AM SO EXCITED. I will have guests! I will have giveaways! I will have review goodness galore!

This will be my third year participating in Rinn Reads SciFi Month, and my second year of co-hosting at Rinn’s invitation. And to make it even more awesome, this November also marks the fourth anniversary of Over The Effing Rainbow!

Four years, you guys. Where does the time go?!

So in order to celebrate both occasions, I have no less than four giveaways planned throughout this month, and the first of them kicks off right here, right now…

…And because good things ought to come in threes, November also brings with it the return of Apex Magazine‘s annual subscription drive. As I did last year, I am showing my unending support of this awesome SF/F magazine by offering one of you fabulous Earthbound readers the chance to win a free year’s subscription!

There are very few rules to follow when entering this giveaway, but they are important ones, so please note:

  • You must be in possession of a valid email address
  • You need to leave a comment on this post confirming that you wish to enter the giveaway – any comments that lack clear confirmation will not be included in the giveaway tally
  • When commenting, please include a way of contacting you should you win, eg. email address or Twitter username

Beyond that, anything goes! There are no territorial restrictions – if you live on Earth, you’re eligible! If you’re already a fan of Apex, or you have an interest in short fiction under the umbrella of surreal, shocking or strange science fiction and fantasy, so much the better. Apex has something weird for everyone!

They also commission some of the best cover art I’ve ever seen. If that’s also your bag, it’s well worth perusing their back issues as well as subscribing! If you’re still not quite convinced, check back tomorrow when I’ll have a guest post from Apex’s managing editor, Lesley Conner, talking about her favourite kinds of SF stories…

This giveaway will run until midnight on Saturday, November 5th. The winner will be announced here on Sunday, November 6th. Whoever wins will be allowed 48 hours to get in touch with me in response to the announcement, to confirm that you’re still interested in receiving the subscription and to provide any information I might need in order to send it your way. If no response is given in that time, another winner will be chosen.

Now, let’s get on with celebrating science fiction!

  1. Happy blogversity 🙂
I’d love to enter the giveaway – best way to get hold of me would be on twitter @ragbonehair.

And now if you’ll excuse me I have to read your back posts…

  2. Hallo, Hallo Lisa!

I’m finally able to visit everyone! 🙂 I kicked off SFN by a list of events I’m brewing on #JLASblog!

Happy Blogoversary! What an exciting SFN for you! 🙂 An event your passionate about and a blog which has become your own niche in the book blogosphere celebrating all the lovely books you love to read! 🙂 I have been so very curious about APEX zine for so many years! It’s one of the zines on my list to check out eventually – as I mentioned the zines of interest whilst blogging about Neil Gaiman’s Essays via this post! I hadn’t mentioned APEX as I was still trying to sort out if I would enjoy reading it or not. There are so many lovelies out there in the zine world, it’s hard to pin down the ones you want to read! I figured one day I’ll just gather a heap of them together and shift through them to see what amuses me the most to continue reading! 🙂

I love your enthused post on behalf of APEX – clearly I shouldn’t have overlooked reading it! I look forward to the Editor’s GP, too! You have a wicked keen month ahead of you – as do I, and I feel like you do – this is going to be the YEAR of FABULOUSNESS for each of us! 🙂 🙂

Definitely confirming my hat thrown into the ring for APEX!
What a kind act of generosity to give us each the chance to read it for a year!
Bless YOU! 🙂 And YES! I love cover art designs & speculative art in general!

My email is linked to this comment as is my blog – however you can DM me via @joriestory too.

I celebrate my Fourth Year as a Book Blogger in 2017 – how three years evaporated already is beyond ME!
Here’s to four more for both of us! And hopefully many more moons afterwards, too! 🙂

PS: I’m reading the Small Angry Planet novel this year! (I did DM you!) My library accepted my purchase REQ, I am so seriously stoked I get to read it this year! 🙂

    1. Woohoo! Welcome back, and yay for blog birthdays!

Just a quick note, also: the number of links in your comment got it flagged as potential spam… Maybe ease back a little next time? 😉

      1. Hallo Lisa!

Really!? Two links were an issue!? That’s strange. Okay. I’ll remember only to share one on your blog in the future. I always link in comments because when I didn’t I used to get feedback that people never knew what I was referencing and that I should learn how to embed links in comments. So I had to smirk when I saw your reply because it was just too ironic! lol Sorry for the issues – I’ve never had that happen before.

        1. Well, I’m assuming it was the links? Nothing else about it said ‘spam’ to me… I might have to check those settings again because now I’m wondering about it…

EDIT: OK, I checked and the moderation settings will hold a comment in the queue if it’s got 2 or more links. So technically it was the links, heh! Nothing to worry about.

          1. *whew!* So thankful you updated this to let me know! I was worried a bit because I didn’t think those links would flag the comment. Thanks for checking and letting me know it was A-OK!

  3. Happy blogoversary! May there be many, many, many more.

I’d love to be entered in the giveaway. Apex has some of the most amazing (and unusual) short stories so I’d be a fool to pass up the chance.

  4. Oh yes, I’d really like to enter. Their cover art is amazing and their content matches. I can be reached on twitter (@divinenanny). Thanks!

  5. Yay, Sci Fi Month is here! I’m not blogging myself, but I can’t wait to read all of the amazing blog posts I know will be coming out throughout the month. 🙂

I confirm that I would like to enter the giveaway. You can contact me on Twitter @molly_tornado

  6. Looking forward to this although I’ve no firm plans – just going to fly from the seat of my pants!
Also – sorry, I’ve just done an opening post and I wasn’t sure if you were co-hosting again so I didn’t add your name in – I’ll go and edit that now! A thousand apologies. I’m a raging maniac.
    Lynn 😀

  7. Happy anniversary, and yay for SciFi Month! Can’t wait to see all the posts. And since I do love cover art I’ll definitely be looking at those back issues!
